Frequently Asked Questions - Frequent Travellers Programme(FTP)

  1. Who will be the direct beneficiaries of this Frequent Travellers Programme?
All ETC and cash users of the LDP.
  2. How long will this programme run for ?
We are launching this for two years, after which it will be reviewed to assess the effectiveness and the extent to which our objective has been achieved.
  3. Where will the reload facility be?
Reload facilities would be available at 3 locations, each at TnG hub Faber Towers, Tng hub KL Central and Litrak HQ.
  4. Where can the cash users collect their T&G card?
User may collect the card at LDP Petaling Jaya Selatan Lay by (next to ESSO station) Bandar Sunway, PJS 9 47500 Petaling Jaya Selangor.
  5. What do you hope to achieve with this programme? What is the main objective?
    • To ease the burden of frequent users of LDP
    • To promote migration of cash users to ETC users
  6. What is your target migration from cash to ETC?
We are now at 48% and by the end of 2009 we hope to achieve 70%
  7. Will congestion at TP1 and TP2 see some light with this programme, with more people now using the fast , ie ETC lane ?
The congestion is actually not at the toll plaza. The congestion is caused by tail back from the Federal Highway. As such, so long as the larger issue of increasing the capacity of the FH is not addressed, there will not be significant improvement at the TP2.
  8. TP1 and TP2 are not strategically located and are the cause of congestion. Please comment.
The location of the Toll Plazas had taken into account various factors such as land availability and the existing road network. It's location has little impact on the congestion as the congestion is primarily due to the heavier than normal traffic volumes which occur during the peak hours of the day.
  9. What do you think would be the ideal solution to peak time congestion on LDP?
Peak hour congestion is a common phenomenon in the Klang Valley. There is no 'ideal' solution to peak time congestion because this is when the traffic volumes are at it's highest volumes of the day. There is a direct correlation whereby if the traffic volumes were to reduce so will the congestion level be lowered. In this respect the 'ideal' solution would be to reduce the number of private vehicles on the road probably by means of having an efficient and alternative integrated public transportation system such as the LRT and buses to complement the road network.
  10. What was Litrak’s original objective for having LDP in place and has that been achieved?
The original LDP objective was to complete the western portion of the Middle Ring Road 2 and this has been achieved. Today the MRR2 and LDP forms a crucial link in dispersing traffic around the KL City centre without having to travel through the City Centre. The LDP has also contributed towards the nation's development by opening up new corridors for development especially in Puchong and has formed a crucial link in the North-South direction between Kepong in the North and Putrajaya in the South as part of the overall integrated road network.
  11. What impact will the TTDI upgrading interchange have on LDP?
It will smoothen traffic flow in and around TTDI interchange. Direct beneficiaries would be the 100,000 daily vehicles traveling north towards Kepong and South toward Puchong. The upgraded interchange will also allow smoother traffic flow for localized traffic.
  12. It looks like we pay the toll to get stuck in the jam, for whatever reasons. What is your excuse?
The congestion is contributed by external factors which are beyond Litrak’s purview to address. The only solution, as pointed out by the Works Minister is to have an integrated public transportation system in place.
We have 3.5 million vehicles for a population of 5 million people in the Klang Valley in contrast to, for comparison purpose, 1.3 million vehicles serving 20 million people in Japan.
  13. The off peak congestion is quite frequent due to accidents and breakdowns on LDP and the reason being there is not emergency lane in critical sections of the LDP. How was LDP even allowed to operate without the basic prerequisite.
Most urban highway do not have the luxury of land for emergency lane. In such instances, it is a prerequisite that the highway operator has in place an emergency response team ( Ronda) to move obstruction as quickly as possible. Litrak’s ERT team is one of the most efficient among the highways with the standard response time maintained at six minutes.
